Time for Service!

How many of us take time out of our lines to help others in need?

Most likely, the answer is a few of us. I was lucky enough to get involved with a great group of folks thanks to a church I attend. The minister there brought an organization to our attention and brought about 15 teens and adults to the Appalachian Mountains for a week of Service doing home repair! In many communities in this area, the poverty rate is about 25% or more.

Many are disabled due to many years of working coal mines. Many are out of work due to coal mine closures. A great group was formed in the 1970's to offer friendship and aid to just those folks. And today Our little group of 15 has grown to nearly 200. We travel from Massachusetts to counties in Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia and Tennessee for a week of sweat, laughter, friendship, and some tears. Most of us have come back a bit changed from out short time there. Many of us feel empty if we miss a year. This week has truly become a must do in order to feel complete in our lives.

Our friend and family gives us this time willingly. Some have even joined along.

We welcome you all to find a Time for Service where ever you can to make a difference in others' lives and those of your own.
